Service to the Community
All research shows the same thing in this area: when teens volunteer their time in service to others, it reduces anxiety and depression. Many schools talk about citizenship, but at STEM, it is a requirement! Students are given multiple opportunities to serve others, first within our own building and then out in the community. This is a foundation of the student experience at STEM. We also encourage our parents to lead by example and spend time serving our STEM Community as well!
In 11th and 12th grades, STEM students begin working on Capstone Projects. These projects require students to do intensive, self-directed projects that give back to their school and/or community. Seniors spend a good deal of their time working on these projects and giving back to others. It’s a rewarding aspect of being a STEM upperclassman!
